NORTHERN TOOL + EQUIPMENT
Northern Tool + Equipment first began at founder Don Kotula's home in Minnesota selling cylinders, valves and how-to-manuals for log splitters by mail. Doing business as Northern Hydraulics, he grew the business with his family mailing catalogs, answering calls, taking orders, strapping packages, and coordinating the shipping. Northern officially opened the first store in 1981.
In 1991, we launched a manufacturing business that builds bigger, tougher, products under the NorthStar brand, including log splitters, generators, pressure washers, air compressors and sprayers. In 1998, we changed the company's name to Northern Tool + Equipment to better reflect our product offering. NTE remains the Kotula's family business, headed by Don's sons Wade and Ryan. Today, with over 100 retail stores in the US and thousands of employees, we continue to provide great value and variety to our customers around the world.
NTE ENGINEERING + MANUFACTURING
Our manufacturing locations have an expert team of 13 engineers working together on two continents, led by our U.S. team in Faribault, Minnesota. NorthStar engineers listen to the real experts, our customers, and constantly make improvements from their feedback. They work with industry leaders including DuPont™, Honeywell®, Parker Hannifin® and ExxonMobil™.
Highly qualified, degreed engineers help oversee our factory in Monterrey, Mexico that is a wholly owned entity of Northern Tool + Equipment. The entire wet end of each NorthStar pump is made here. All plastic injection molding is done in Monterrey using carefully selected and rigorously tested resins. NorthStar's proprietary Viton rubber compounds are molded into valves, o-rings and gaskets in Monterrey. These compounds were created specifically for these pumps and have been tested to ensure durability.
